I thought that getting my kid into school in NYC was overly complicated and time consuming. Then I spoke with my friend Ham (okay, it’s Pam, but from the first time the Em&Em met her she has called her Ham) about little league baseball in Chicago. Her husband showed up at the park closest to them on the correct Saturday at about 9am. Sign-ups were scheduled to begin at 10:15am. There were no wristbands left by the time he arrived. A week later, at the park slightly further away, he went at 3am since he happened to be awake. He arrived to find a tent city and bonfires. He spoke to the guy at the front of the tent line who had arrived at 10pm. The guy explained that based on his unofficial survey, there were already about 10 more people in line then there were tryout spots. Oh, yeah, a wristband just gets you a tryout. Dad went home and back to bed. Mikey will be playing soccer assuming his dad can figure out the tent.
